What Am I Doing, And Why: A Dialogue between Philosophy and English

Ever since Plato exiled the poets from his utopia, philosophy and literature have rarely been on the same page. Now with the Humanities under assault, the time has never been better for a discussion of  how the study of philosophy and literature fit into the general pursuit of knowledge.  Two philosophers and two scholars of English literature will describe their research aims and methods and discuss whether they see any common ground between the two disciplines.

Symposiasts are: Anja Jauernig (philosophy) Tim Maudlin (philosophy) Lytle Shaw (English) and Clifford Siskin (English)

The dialogue will be introduced and moderated by Rebecca Newberger Goldstein, who has a foot in both camps.
