Come explore the intersection between the history of literature and the history of ideas! The Literary and Intellectual History Colloquium focuses on how literature has shaped, and been shaped by, political and philosophical discourse. How does literature give nuance and texture to developing political and philosophical ideas of a given period? How has literature embraced or rejected such ideas, and thereby influenced the trajectory of 19th and 20th century European and American intellectual history? Our colloquium will be guided by these questions. This first, inaugural meeting will focus on the methodology and history of ‘the history of ideas’ itself – we can’t wait to hear our attendees’ thoughts on these specific matters, and much more!
